Bergen had been excited to see the operating area of his new ship, the ship itself was also a treat. The Elysion-class was essentially the newest iteration of the science-oriented mid-sized explorer, serving as a smaller version of the Century-class, much as the Intrepid served to the Galaxy-class, and even the Miranda to the Excelsior a generation before.

The Trill officer was excited, he tried to calm himself, giving his uniform a final check before pressing the chime to the office of his new boss.

She looked up from her report, she wasn't expecting anyone unless someone got assigned at the last minute and she didn't know about. "Enter," she replied as she looked up to see the door part revealing a Trill in blue.

"Good morning ma'am. Lieutenant Bergen reporting, I've been assigned as your new Chief Science Officer." He said with a small nod as he stepped into the office.

"Ah, Lieutenant please come in and take a seat." She replied with a smile as she stood up for a moment. "Glad you could make it and just in time as we are about to leave Spacedock for the Badlands," Jori replied as she took a seat again after Bergen took his.

"Thank you, ma'am," he said, taking the seat. "Yes unfortunately the transport that I was assigned to had a breakdown, two days of trucking along at warp two was quite enjoyable."

She nodded, "at least you made it." Jori replied as she pulled up his file which just got transferred over. "So before we get into the details of the current mission, tell me a bit about yourself." She asked as she looked at him for a moment.

He smirked, "What would you like to know? Graduated from the academy and completed my Ph.D. work on Trill. Served aboard the Eindhoven and Rotterdam before being assigned here."

She nodded as she handed him a padd with information on what was going on and what their mission was. "So the brief of it is we are being sent to the Badlands to check out reports of either one or multiple Cardassian Galor-class starships being seen. Though this is not unusual in it of itself as the badlands are not claimed by anyone." She began as she took a pause before continuing, "it seems that multiple freighters and other ships traveling through the area find it a bit odd that a ship would approach or follow them for a short time, no communications then part."

"So, we are going there to investigate and see what is exactly going on. We are to try to make contact, if we can't then we are to follow them up until their borders. But we are not to engage them unless they fire on us or any other ships in the area." She added as she finished looking at him.

"Chasing Cardassians in the badlands, what decade did you say it was?" He asked with a grin. "I assume we'll be operating alone."

She shrugged, "It's the Cardassians though they're always up to something and half the time it's usually no good." She replied looking at him. "Yes we will be the only ones going, it will be a three-day journey to the badlands from Starbase 72. Since communications while in the badlands will be limited we won't have communications with Starfleet. If they don't hear anything within a week they will send reinforcements to look for us if that's any consolation." Jori replied with a sigh, "let's just hope they are willing to talk so we don't have to resort to that." She finished before readjusting in her seat for a moment.

"Let's hope." He replied skimming the PADD. "Is there anything else I need to be brought up to speed on?" He asked.

"Not currently," she replied with a smile. "I'll let you get settled and meet with your team, if you have any questions my door is always open." She replied as she stood up, "again welcome aboard." She added before extending her hand towards him.

The junior officer shook hands with the Captain. "Thank you, ma'am, I'm looking forward to it."

She nodded as she watched him leave, she thought it be nice to have another Trill onboard. After he left she looked back at her paperwork and started to finish what she was working on before the visit.
